The Pousada Curicaca represents the pure and natural nature of Pantanal, giving their visitors the opportunity to see its beauty when having their meals, sun bathing around the pool, from the window of their apartment or in their morning walks!

I love the nature and Pousada Curucaca is a miror that reflects all its beauty!

We only had two days at Curicaca Wildlife Refuge but we saw so many animals that this place will keep in our minds for ever. This place is a must for birders and at the moment still an insider’s tip for nature lover. The accommodation is excellent but you will not stay long at your room. Just walking around the hotel premises you see so many birds, it is just incredible. It was our first Lodge at Pantanal and we saw in this two days half of our bird list (200 bird species like macaw, potoo, toucan, herons, egrets, owls, hummingbirds (difficult ones..), woodpecker, woodcreeper, antshrike, tyrants and amazing close curassow, guans, nunbirds, pygmy kingfisher). There is a wonderful restaurant where you can watch the animals around. There are Agutis, Coatis and we were the most luckiest Paca watcher, spending the beginning of the night quite in the restaurant.

Tell me one place of Pantanal, were you can see this shy, big, nocturnal and strange rodent?! The monkeys (howlers, capuchin, tamarin) are easy to see. You may not miss the amazing silent boat trip, you will be punted in the boat and hope you are as lucky as we were, we saw the tapir crossing the lake, we saw the neotropical and the giant otter playing around, popping out.

During the night trip we were so lucky to see the tamandua, which I love most and of course crab eating foxes and crab eating racoons. This place we saw the most reptiles (for example tegus and lizards, not to mention the very close caimans). The most impressing moment was when we walked along the road and a huge puma jumped in front of our way, running immediately along the road, away from us. My surprise took too long, but at least I managed a bad picture for evidence (my husband managed a nice video). The people running the place are so kind and helpful; showing you the exciting animals and taking care of all your wishes. There was only one thing which I have “to complain” about, I left the place so tired, because you do not get time for sleep, it is just too exciting to look around. I hope so much, that I will be able to come back one day, then I will spend longer time at this remote, lovely place. I want to say thank you for all the kindness from the wonderful people who run the place! Thank you and good luck for the future!

JULIO, 2009.
